A key member of The Wooded Way said to me the other day "I don't believe in evolution", and in some ways, I agree with her. However, I feel that there is certainly enough evidence to be able to say that species DO go through changes over time in response to changes occurring in their living conditions or environment. The part of evolutionary theory that I DO NOT agree with is that part referred to as 'natural selection', which, in brief, states that the changes that occur happen solely on the basis of certain individuals of a species 'mutating' in some way to have features that give them an advantage over others in their species. As such, as they breed, whatever their new feature is gets passed on and the 'improved' version simply takes over.

It is my personal belief (because I don't know) that evolution is what I refer to as 'Creation in action'. Yes, things DO mutate and go through changes over time in accordance with THE NEEDS of their living environment, but the species is initially created with a purpose and a reason to be there in the first place. Each species is a vital link in the entire network of life on Earth, all with a purpose and a reason to exist. All living things have symbiotic links to other living things and the entire biosphere of the Earth becomes a singular, living ONENESS of individual species interacting with each other like the cells of our own bodies, in order to create a singular living entity we call GAIA, the living Earth.

So there are no random accidents or mutations going on. Some cases of 'natural selection' may occur, but it is my strong feeling that the changes that occur in a particular species do so in order to better fulfill their purpose. It is all designed and the changes planned ahead. When dinosaurs evolved wings, feathers, beaks, hollow bones etc to give them the ability to fly and become birds, it was not 'natural selection'. It was a process of change over a period of time that was initiated to have an end result ... the ability to fly. So it was planned somewhere in advance (in my opinion). That somewhere, to me, is the living Earth itself. Species all interacting as one, and as needs or weaknesses occur within the Oneness, the Oneness fixes the weakness by instigating a process of change. So yes, I guess that I am saying that GAIA 'thinks', 'dreams' and is 'sentient' (or feels) ... Gaia creates, but guess what? It is US that gives her that ability ... we who dream within the oneness, we who have the capacity to imagine and create. It is the whole reason we exist, why Gaia created, or gave birth to US. WE are N'AVI (or can be ... in my opinion!) - Beau

"You can't change the World", they said
"No ... but I CAN change MY World ...", I replied
"... thus changing the manner by which
the World & I perceive each other"

... and so the World changed!

I feel that we have been created my the mother (Gaia) and the father (Ra) - Just as is replicated through all sentient beings here on Earth.

We are eternally interconnected in the web of life, which is fed with creation energy by both sources. And yes Gaia is living a dream, as we all are; as is the rest of the universe. The physical forms in existence are co-created by all of life, together.

I feel evolution, is a co-creation of all of life. As life is ever changing, there is constant evolution - even if that means a species being strong enough to destroy another species. This is still evolution. It is a message from the whole web, that this is not needed any more.

It doesn't really matter what these bodies used to be like. What matters is that what the physical form used to be, needed to change for whatever reason; and now the body is different. Human bodies evolved to create a path for the mind to evolve further. Now we are seeing that the mind has evolved to the point it needed to go to, and the natural process which will further our evolution, I feel, is the concious evolution of the heart. We can expand and evolve further with our hearts conciously open; as this allows all other parts of our physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, astral bodies, and all our chakrs to evolve more quickly.

Basically, it seems to me that evolution is a consious or unconcious decision made by all of life; and we are not at the whim of any force stonger than ourselves, but as strong as ourselves. If we choose to evolve in a prticular way, then we are conciously evolving; otherwise we are just choosing to be unconcious of our evolution on a sublte level.

peace.

it does not mean to be in a place

where there is no noise, trouble

or hard work. it means to be in

the midst of all of those things

and still be calm in your heart.

You and I are definitely of the same mind and heart on this one Peace. The key element here is that of the living, conscious 'Oneness' that we are all a vital part of. There can be no true individuality ... alone, I am as useless as a single gear from an old clock rolling around on the table, but together with all the other gears in place, the clock comes alive and has purpose. But if just one tiny gear is missing in the clock, no part of it can function at all. When a living organism goes through a change, it is done to meet the overall needs of the whole, not the need of the individual.

I also use the metaphor of evolution to also describe the coming together of community ... the way of The Wood, whereby every person in the community, no matter what their life circumstance, age, gender, cultural heritage might once have been, are a vital part of their community. Every individual has a distinct role and purpose in the community, every individual has equal respect because without any one person doing and being who they are, the community could not function efficiently, if at all. Everything we have discussed in this topic relates to the manner by which Gaia functions as the living oneness that we are all a part of ... but just as Gaia is a living oneness, so also must be our Wooded Way community. This must also be free to evolve as it will.
